Enhancing the contribution of the agri-food value chain to the Circular Economy

A sustainable, low carbon, resource efficient and competitive economy is a priority for Europe. All this can be achieved with a more circular economy where the use of products, materials and resources is optimised and the generation of waste is minimised. This would contribute to a continuous positive development cycle to preserve and enhance our natural resources, optimise them and minimise our risks.

The members of the Food SCP Round Table recognise the importance of the circular economy for the agri-food value chain across Europe and are fully committed to facilitate this transition towards more resource efficiency and use of secondary raw materials.

In this context, the Food SCP Round Table is drafting a report on “Enhancing the contribution of the agri-food value chain to the Circular Economy” which will be published in February 2018. The report aims to explain what the Circular Economy means for the agri-food value chain by showing real examples, identify barriers and challenges, and to formulate recommendations both sector operators and policy makers. Towards this end, the Food SCP Round Table also organised a workshop on 10 October 2017. Its conclusions and recommendations will be included in the final report.
